Michael J. Horan

Former Owner & Licensed Funeral Director

Mike was born and raised in Troy, NY. He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s School in Troy, Catholic Central High School and the Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science. He became a licensed funeral director since 1971.

After the sudden death of his aunt Nonie Horan Prendergast, Michael became the Licensed Manager of the Riverview Funeral Home, a position that he held for 40 years until his retirement in September 2011. During retirement, Mike remained a consultant for the business and could always be called upon by families.

Michael was always a proud and active member of the community having served on the Troy City Counsel for 8 years. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Hudson River - Black River Regulating District by then Gov. Mario Cuomo. He later served as Chairman of the Board.

Michael was a member of the St. Patrick’s Knights of Columbus and a Fourth Degree member of the Cohoes Assembly K of C, and also was a member of the Troy Elks Lodge. Michael also served on the Board of Directors for Oakwood Cemetery Association.  In 2011 the demands of the business required additional help. Mike turned to his friend and colleague, Roy Bordeau, to join him in the operations of the funeral home.

Mike passed away peacefully after a long illness on March 1, 2016, at his home in Bluffton S.C., surrounded by his loving family. Mike will be forever missed. His quick wit and dry sense of humor will be fondly remembered.

Roy F. Bordeau

Owner & Licensed Funeral Director

Roy was born and raised in Schenectady, NY. His mother, Mary Jane Wilkinson, was born and raised in Troy, therefore, Troy was like a second home to the Bordeau family. Roy became interested in the funeral business from an early age, having attended funerals of relatives, many of which were conducted from the Riverview Funeral Home.

In 1974, Roy graduated with honors from the Mortuary Science Program at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY. Roy served his state required residency training at the prestigious Marshall W. Tebbutt's Sons in Albany, NY. Roy received his funeral director's license in 1975.

In 1980, Roy began a “Professional Trade” business, supplying professional services such as embalming and cosmetology services to several area funeral homes. However, he always wanted to operate his own funeral home. This lifelong dream came true in September of 2011. Mr. Michael Horan asked Roy to join him at the Riverview Funeral Home.

Roy has always considered it the greatest privilege to assist families in their time of loss and grief. He has always considered funeral directing a vocation rather than just an occupation.

Roy has been a church organist since the age of 14 and met his wife, Anne Marie, also a church organist when their two churches merged in 1975. They have a daughter, Andrea Marie who is currently a post graduate student living abroad.

“I feel privileged to serve the community and the families who call upon my assistance at Riverview”.

Tia Beatty

Licensed Funeral Director

Tia was born and raised in Albany and is a graduate of Albany High School. At an early age Tia felt a calling for funeral service. Because of this, it was natural that she would apply to college for mortuary science. She has chosen funeral service as career choice, which she considers more of a vocation and life ministry rather than a job.

Tia obtained her mortuary science degree from SUNY Canton; she is a graduate of the class 2007.

Tia’s passion has always been to aid bereaved families through the difficult moments of planning a funeral service. She has a true gift to gently guide families and the community through a time of despair. Tia believes there is no greater honor than to create a ceremony that is truly meaningful, memorable and beautiful… all while keeping it affordable.

She is a proud member of the Empire Christian Center, Albany, NY. Tia assists victims of violent crimes with compassion, dignity and respect through Albany’s Urban Grief Team partnered with our funeral home.

Tia served her residency with Riverview Funeral Home successfully and is now a duly licensed funeral director - the achievement of a dream.

Kristin Sheila Badgley SantaLucia

She is lifelong resident of the Lansingburgh community, with over 25 years experience in cosmetology and hair styling. Over the years, Kristin has volunteered for local theater companies as a hair and makeup designer. She has also worked with many charitable organizations cutting hair for their fundraising events.

For the past 12 years, Kristin has mastered the art of barbering at Gregory's Barber Shop (Clifton Park, NY) as well as her own shop for over 4 years. Her experience and techniques are quoted in barbering textbooks.

“Over the past 25 years, my friends, family and community as a whole, have called upon my service to prepare their loved ones for viewing. I have been a part of Riverview Funeral Home for a better part of those years. I have always felt a sense of duty and deep respect for the families and their deceased loved ones during the preparation. My whole experience (and world) changed when my own mother, the late Sheila Yaiser, passed away in 2014.  Using my talent and skill to help families in my community, to me, is an honor. It’s fulfilling to be a special part of creating a healing moment and a comforting, lasting memory picture.”
