Obituary of JoAnn K. Simmons

SELKIRK - JoAnn (Kosko) Simmons, 67, of Selkirk, formerly of Troy, entered into rest unexpectedly on August 25, 2022, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany with her husband by her side. The daughter of the late Joseph J. and Maureen (Phibbs) Kosko, JoAnn was born on September 4, 1954, in Troy, New York. JoAnn was raised and resided in Cohoes for the majority of her life, she moved her family to Selkirk in 1992. JoAnn received her education from Shaker High School (class of 1972) and also from Russell Sage College in Troy, earning a bachelor's and master's degree. For 36 years, Mrs. Simmons was employed as a 6th grade educator with the Greenville Central School District in Greenville, New York up until the time of her death. She loved working as a teacher and educator and was not quite ready to leave her pupils for retirement. JoAnn loved her profession (teaching), especially archeology and geology, and was fascinated by ancient civilizations with an emphasis on Egyptian culture. She loved browsing garage sales and was an avid collector of antiques. JoAnn also enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks, a good slot machine and lotto ticket too. JoAnn will be warmly remembered as compassionate, giving, caring, loving, loyal, funny, witty, sassy, tactful, fierce, personable, and for her love of cats. Survivors include her husband, Timothy P. Simmons, Sr., whom she married on May 20, 1990, her children: Maureen (Brian Tierney) Simmons and Timothy J. Simmons, her expected grandchild Cora, and her three cats: Bear, Amy, and Cooper Special Thanks to JoAnn's friends, her extended family, former students and Greenville Central School faculty and staff, who have expressed their condolences and appreciation for JoAnn. In lieu of flowers, to honor JoAnn's devotion to her students, the Simmons family would like donations and school supplies to the 2022-2023 school year for the students at Greenville Central School.
