TROY- William Francis Laviolette, 76, of Troy, passed away on February 12, 2022. Bill was born and raised in Troy and remained a life-long resident. He followed in the footsteps of his two older brothers by joining the U.S. Navy in 1962 at the age of 17 where he served honorably aboard the missile cruiser USS Galveston (CLG-3 out of San Diego, CA). Bill served as a fireman in the engine room. The Galveston conducted operations off the coast of South Vietnam prior to Bill's completion of duty in 1965. He earned his G.E.D in the Navy. He married his childhood sweetheart Linda Burns of Troy in 1966. Bill worked as a dispatcher for the City of Troy, then as a Troy Firefighter from 1976 to 1996. Family was most important to Bill, he loved to be surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and enjoyed cooking for everyone. He had an adventurous spirit and there was very little he hadn't tried - from white water rafting, skydiving, to horseback riding. Disney World trips with his grandchildren was one of his favorite past times. He enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks, and he was very good at everything he did, there was nothing he couldn't do. Bill had a mind for invention, and his clever repairs were to be admired. He loved to binge watch NCIS. He was the best storyteller. He was fearless and very charitable. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. His grandkids and great grandkids will miss their "Poppy".
