Obituary of William F. "Bill" Laviolette

TROY- William Francis Laviolette, 76, of Troy, passed away on February 12, 2022. Bill was born and raised in Troy and remained a life-long resident. He followed in the footsteps of his two older brothers by joining the U.S. Navy in 1962 at the age of 17 where he served honorably aboard the missile cruiser USS Galveston (CLG-3 out of San Diego, CA). Bill served as a fireman in the engine room. The Galveston conducted operations off the coast of South Vietnam prior to Bill's completion of duty in 1965. He earned his G.E.D in the Navy. He married his childhood sweetheart Linda Burns of Troy in 1966. Bill worked as a dispatcher for the City of Troy, then as a Troy Firefighter from 1976 to 1996. He worked out of the Engine 4 firehouse. He was a charter member of the St. Patrick's Church of Troy Knights of Columbus Council, and a 4th Degree Knight with the Fr. Van Rensselaer Assembly of Cohoes. He was also a prominent member of the Knights degree team in the area, work that he greatly enjoyed. He was a former Faithful Navigator. Family was most important to Bill, he loved to be surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and enjoyed cooking for everyone. He had an adventurous spirit and there was very little he hadn't tried - from white water rafting, skydiving, to horseback riding. Disney World trips with his grandchildren was one of his favorite past times. He enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks, and he was very good at everything he did, there was nothing he couldn't do. Bill had a mind for invention, and his clever repairs were to be admired. He loved to binge watch NCIS. He was the best storyteller. He was fearless and very charitable. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. His grandkids and great grandkids will miss their "Poppy". He is survived by his wife Linda and their children Melissa Laviolette, Heidi Laviolette, William Laviolette, Jr (Melanie), and Priscilla Feliciano (William), their grandchildren Anthony Laviolette (Erin), Kylie Wood (Al), Vanessa Feliciano, Isabela Feliciano, Noelia Feliciano, Jackson Laviolette, and their great-grandchildren Annabelle Wood, Konnor Wood, Haley Laviolette and Allison Laviolette. He is survived by his brothers Eugene Laviolette of Flagstaff, AZ, Clifford Laviolette of Cohoes, NY and his sister Helen Hunt of Troy. Bill was predeceased by his parents George and Verona (Eriksen) Laviolette of Troy as well as sisters Marion Laviolette Paolucci and Marie Laviolette Ciarcia (James Ciarcia). Memorial Contributions (in lieu of flowers) - Tunnel-To-Towers (T2T) fund, which provides disabled war veterans with handicap accessible homes.
