Obituary of James G. Conoly, Jr.

TROY ~ James G. Conoly, Jr., 76, of Troy, died suddenly on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Born to the late James G., Sr. & Jessie P. (Roulhac) Conoly on July 27, 1940 in Chipley, Florida, where he was raised and lived most of his life. Mr. Conoly received his education in Florida and graduated from the high school which his maternal grandfather founded (Roulhac High School). He studied agriculture at A.M. University in Tallahassee, FL. James has resided in Trenton, New Jersey for several years before coming to Troy. He has been a Troy resident for the last 20 years of his life. James received Christ as his savior at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Arrat Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Clyde Jefferson. He attended Oakwood Presbyterian Church in Troy with his wife. James was employed as a Welder at Diamond W. Products, Inc. in Albany for several years until retiring as a result of illness. He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife Carolyn Jackson Conoly, his children; J. Charles Jackson, Jr., Carolyn (John) Parker, Lee J. (Jennifer) Harris, and grandchildren; Tikoya Jackson, Tareem Jackson, Amani Jackson, Anajah Jackson, Tianna Parker, Tierra Parker, Elijah Harris, Javen Harris. Also survived by great grandchildren; Zarrea, Diane, Maylene, Zayvin, Ariah. James was the baby of the family and was proud of it, he is survived by four sisters; Mrs. Vivian Koonce of Marianna, Florida, Mrs. Sylvia Ellis of Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. Maudelyn Johnson of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Mrs. Althea O'Bryant of Brooklyn, New York, also survived by his beloved cousin Frank D. Jenkins of Trenton, New Jersey, whom he had a special bond with. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. James' home going celebration will be held at the Oakwood Community Center, 313 10th Street (at the corner of Hoosick St.) in Troy, on Saturday, August 20, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Beth Illingworth will preside. A viewing hour will be available from 9-10 a.m., at the church, prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy. Riverview Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
