Obituary of Lorraine "Rainy" Lawson

TROY - Lorraine "Rainy" Lawson was granted her heavenly angel wings on Friday, May 13th, 2016 surrounded by family and friends whose lives she touched during her memorable life here on earth. Rainy was born February 3rd, 1961 in Troy, New York to B.J. Lawson and the late Mary Wallace. She received her formal education in the Troy Public School System. Rainy worked at various nursing homes in the capital district area as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Med Tech, and dietitian before relocating to Baltimore, MD in 1994. While in Baltimore she continued her work in the health field at various nursing homes before joining the staff of John Hopkins Medical Center as a Med Tech and CNA in 1998. She loved her patients and would spend her own money assuring that their personal needs were met. Rainy loved taking care of others; whether it be cooking for them, providing health needs support or just lending a hand. Even during her sickness she worried about other sick family members and asked how they were doing every day. As a child she attended Bethel Baptist Church and after relocating to Baltimore Lorraine joined Mount Zion Baptist Church. In addition to her father she leaves to cherish her precious memories sisters, Cynthia Wallace and Barbara Smith of Troy, NY. One brother, Jesse Smith of Cohoes, NY. One godson, Cedric Sabb of Troy, NY. Aunts, Lottie Brunson of Colonie, NY; Emma Pettiway of Upper Marlboro, MD; Wilma L. Wright of Montgomery, AL; Shirley Holmes (Jasper) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Hellen Thompson (Walter) of Greeyleville, SC; and Wilhelmina Thomas (James) of Freeport, NY. Uncles, Andrew Wallace of Troy, NY and Staff Sergeant (Ret) Albert Lawson of Augusta, GA. She also leaves a host of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly. Rainy was also preceded in death by her surrogate parents, Virginia and Tommie Dickson. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 20th 2016 at 10:00 am at Bethel Baptist Church, 2165 5th Avenue, Troy, NY 12180.
