Obituary of Phillip K. Turner

Troy, NY- Phillip K. Turner was born in Troy on March 8, 1955 to the late Eddie and Mary (Dodson) Turner. At the age of 60, he moved on in the presence of his loved ones on Sunday, January 31, 2016 following a brief illness. Mr. Turner was a lifelong resident of Troy and was a graduate of Troy High School, where he excelled at basketball. He attended Junior College of Albany (J.C.A.) and studied business. Following college, Mr. Turner joined the Army, after serving two years he was honorably discharged and entered the workforce. Phillip was known as the classic "jack-of-all-trades". He was a custodian in the maintenance department for Troy Housing Authority. As a very athletic man, Phillip enjoyed riding his bike and most sports but in particularly basketball and bowling. He was an avid Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Vikings fan. He also had a special fascination with NASCAR and sports car racing. In the summer season Phillip liked to garden, and also enjoyed grilling and barbecuing. Phillip will fondly be remembered as a caring and thoughtful man who often looked out for others. His greatest passion was his family and friends. He had the most friends any man could have in one city. Everyone knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory, his companion and life partner, Denise V. Fuller, his siblings; Eddie Turner, Jr., Shirley Martin, Richard Turner and Loretta Turner. Phillip is also survived by a daughter and his best friend Pete Rhodes. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. Besides his parents, Phillip was predeceased by his siblings Fred Turner, Virginia Turner, Lana Turner as well as a nephew, Damion. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, February 3, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at RIVERVIEW FUNERAL HOME, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) Troy, where a funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Elmwood Hill Cemetery.
