Obituary of Thomas Charles LeRoy Honsinger, Sr.

Troy, NY- Thomas Honsinger, Sr., 72, of Troy, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2015 following an extended illness. Beloved husband of Corinne M. (Martin) Cosgrave-Honsinger, Loving father of: Tammy (Anthony) Belcher, Richard (Kelly) Honsinger and James C. Cosgrave, Cherished grandfather of: Kayli Honsinger, Brynn Honsinger, Chase Honsinger, Kelsey Belcher and Anthony Belcher. Dearest Brother of: David H. (Donna) Honsinger, Jr., Dennis Honsinger, Mary (George) Henkel, Daniel J. Honsinger and Karen Honsinger-Charbonneau. Brother-in-law to: Genevieve Martin, Louis (Loretta) Martin, David W. (Robert) Martin and Frank (Eileen) Martin. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Tom was predeceased by his parents David H. Honsinger, Sr. and Mary (McGuire) Honsinger, as well as his son Thomas, Jr. Born in Cohoes, NY on June 11, 1943, Tom was longtime resident of the Troy area. He was a graduate of Troy High School. Following high school he served in the National Guard. Later in life, Tom attended Hudson Valley Community College, where in 2003 he obtained an Associates degree in Electrical Engineering. He was very proud of this achievement. For 34 years he was employed at BASF in Rensselaer. Although he held many jobs throughout his career he was mainly a chemical operator. Tom, a quiet guy, had a deep love for his family and cared for animals. He enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, woodlands and nature in general. His heart was in Colorado. He was very straightforward and honest. He spoke up at a point when it mattered the most. There will be no viewing or funeral services. A memorial service will be announced and held in the spring of 2016. The family wishes to thank Rensselaer County Hospice for the exemplary care provided to Tom. In lieu of flowers a donation in Tom's memory may be made to either the American Cancer Society (1 Penny Ln, Latham, NY 12110) or Paws with a Cause (4646 South Division, Wayland, MI 49348).
