Obituary of Joyce M. Popson

Joyce M. Popson Hoosick Falls, NY- Joyce M. Popson, 74, most recently of Hoosick Falls and formerly of the Lansingburgh Kane Apartments, died suddenly at the home of her daughter in Hoosick Falls on May 31, 2015. Joyce was born in Malone, NY, a daughter of the late Carl and Freda (Williams) Mason. She moved to Troy when she was 5 years old and was a lifelong resident ever since. Joyce worked as a school crossing guard and also as a cook for the nuns at St. Patrick's Church. She then went on to cook at Thorney's in Troy, Connie's in Troy and the Man of Kent for 10 years in the Town of Pittstown. She retired in 2010 from Leahy's in Troy. Her favorite thing in the world was to feed people, as mothers and grandmothers do best. But another love she had was for elephants. Joyce had a collection of over 2000 elephants. She and her amazing collection were once featured in an article in the Troy Record. Joyce is survived by her husband, Joseph Edward Popson, her children: Karen (Michael) McCormick, of Troy, Susan (Roger) Liberto, of Hoosick Falls, Brian (Patti) Popson, of Hoosick Falls, her grandchildren: Michael and Emily Popson, and Angela, Jerrid and Sarah McCormick. Joyce is also survived by 5 great grandchildren. Surviving siblings include: Barbara Anderson, of Troy, Robert Mason, of Troy, Freda Pratt, of Malta, Richard Mason, of Troy, Gary Mason, of Schoharie and Mark (Penny) Mason of Colonie. Besides her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her brother, Francis Mason. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, June 4th, at Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (at the corner of 104th Street) in Lansingburgh, where a funeral service will be conducted that same evening at 7pm. Interment will be at 10AM on Saturday June 6th, in St. Peter's Cemetery, Troy.
