Obituary of Cydne Rose Brearton

Troy- Cydne R. Brearton, 65, died peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends on Friday, June 6, 2014 after battling a long illness. Born in Troy on February 17, 1949, Cydne was the daughter of the late Angeline Thompson. A resident of Cohoes and Troy, Cydne attended school at St Michael's in Cohoes, Catholic Central High School, and graduated from Troy High School. Cydne pursued a career in public service. She began working for the City of Troy in 1981 as the Registrar of Vital Statistics. She became the Confidential Assistant to Mayor Mark Pattison in 2002 and returned to her position of Registrar in 2004. During her years of service, she was also the Records Management Officer and received many grants for the city to assist in records management. New York State granted her an award to recognize to dedication and commitment to the field. She retired in 2011 after 30 years of service. Cydne served on the Sunnyside Daycare Center board of directors. For several years, she organized and participated in events to raise funds to support for various children's programs. In her spare time, Cydne enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her friends and family. One of her greatest passions was traveling. She visited many different places and traveled to Ireland several times. She especially enjoyed annual trips to Hilton Head Island with friends and family. Cydne was the wife of the late Frank J. Brearton, Jr. who passed away in 2001. Together they shared 33 years of marriage. Cydne is survived by her children, Frank J. Brearton III, of Troy, and Kyle (Michael) MacDowell of Mahopac, NY; her grandchildren, Ryan and Keira MacDowell also of Mahopac, NY; her brother, Kris Thompson of Malta, NY; her sister, Melanie (Denise Farnan) Thompson of Ladys Island, South Carolina; and loving companion, Michael Horan. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will commence on Tuesday morning at 9AM from Parker Brothers Memorial 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, thence to Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church 310 Spring Ave, Troy where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Randall P. Patterson, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Church. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Oakwood Ave, Troy. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at Parker Bros. Memorial on Monday from 4PM until 8PM. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Cyd in a special way may make a contribution in her memory to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
