Obituary of Therese Ludwig

Therese Ludwig, 83, of Glenville died February 17 at the Kingsway Manor Assisted Living facility in Schenectady. Terry was born October 15, 1928, in Bronx, NY, to the late Loretta and Alphee Rosenvinge. Terry was raised by her paternal Aunt Nettie after her mother died when she was 7. Terry attended Catholic primary schools before enrolling in public high school, where she met her future husband, Gerald Ludwig. After graduating from high school, Terry worked 8 years as an executive secretary, first in New York City and then for Arthur D. Little in Cambridge, MA. She married Gerry on June 15, 1951, in the chapel at the Harvard University Memorial Church. Terry supported the family until Gerry earned his PhD in 1955, after which they moved to Schenectady, NY. They had 3 children, and Terry devoted herself to supporting their education and activities and to watching her husband and sons play tournament tennis. In 1959, she and Gerry bought their first house in Woodhaven. Although Terry loved to look at houses and later earned a real estate license, she remained in the Woodhaven home for the next 50 years. In 1990, Gerry had a life altering stroke and Terry devoted herself to caring for him for the next 10 years. Three months after his death, Terry was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She lived courageously, much better and longer than anyone expected, enjoying time with her children and grandchildren. When thinking back she liked to say, "I've had a good life. I had a wonderful husband, 3 wonderful children who I'm very proud of, and I've been able to travel and do many things." Terry was preceded in death last December by her older brother, Alfred. Surviving are 3 children, Dr. Warren Ludwig of Raleigh, NC; Catherine Jordan of Niskayuna; and Arthur Ludwig of Lockport; and 8 grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at the home of Catherine Jordan, 12 Crimson Oak Court, Sunday, February 19, from noon to 2 pm. Contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308, or Donny Dudley Tennis Foundation, P.O. Box 2943, Glenville, NY 12325.
