Obituary of Gloria A. Ray

TROY –

Gloria A. (Harrington) Ray, 84, of Troy, departed this life and began her journey to Heaven on March 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of the late Phillip and Pauline Harrington, Gloria was born on October 30, 1939 in Troy. She was the devoted wife of the late Donald Ray, who was the love of her life.

Gloria and Don’s union began on July 22, 1956 in Troy. Shortly after, Don was enlisted in the United States Navy and they relocated to Virginia for a few years. Following an honorable discharge, Gloria and Don returned home to Troy where they raised their 7 children.

Gloria was a devoted homemaker, who loved being a wife and mother and later cherished becoming a grandmother. Her home and her family were the largest part of her life. In later years, Gloria did work outside the home at Ames in Troy, where she had fun with her dear friend Ellie. Outgoing and sociable, Gloria enjoyed parties and family gatherings. She also enjoyed adventures she would take with her husband along with Barb and Mike Loiselle and all of the family on camping trips to Maine every year.

Gloria possessed a “green thumb” having a talent for gardening and flowers outside her home and maintaining plant life within her home. Our mom and grandma truly loved life, her family and her home. We will sorely miss her.

Survivors include her children and their spouses: Donald (Robin) Ray of Troy, Sharon Ray of Troy, Richard (Elsie) Ray of Melrose, Donna (Gerald) Keegan of Troy, Penny (Todd) Tesman of Johnsonville and Lisa (Ed) Macey of Berlin. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gloria was predeceased by her son, David C. Ray as well as Pat Moore and Carl Moore, Jr. both of Columbus, Ohio.

A true light has left this world.

Relatives and Friends are invited to call from 10:30 AM until 1:30 PM on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) Troy, NY 12180, where a Funeral Service will follow at 1:30 PM in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in the Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy.
