Obituary of Gary W. Thompson

NORTH TROY - Gary W. Thompson "Rock" passed away on October 6, 2022 at 71. Born September 22, 1951, Gary was a lifelong resident of Pleasantdale in North Troy. He graduated in 1969 from Lansingburgh High School and he continued his education at Hudson Valley Community College, Siena College and SUNY Oswego. Gary's life always revolved around autobody and racing cars. Before and after college, his auto body career began with Phil Spiak's shop in Troy, New York, along with his passion for stock car team racing. He opened his own shop, Thompson's Auto Body and Repair, followed by a long tenure at T&T Sales in Latham, New York. He is survived by his only brother, Scott (Candy) Thompson of Fort Myers, FL; longtime partner of Debbie Monforte, Ken Brady often referred to as his stepson; and Christopher Nichols who called Gary, Poppy; and cousins Joann (Wm) Niles, Bruce Yarter and David Yarter. He was predeceased by his parents, Betty and Clifford Thompson, formerly of Troy, NY and Fort Myers, FL; and cousins John Thompson and Terry Thompson. Funeral Services will commence at 11:30AM on Saturday, October 22nd from the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) in Troy. Interment will follow the service in the Thompson Family plot in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. The Thompson Family will be present to receive relatives and friends at the Riverview Funeral Home prior to the service from 10 AM until 11:30 AM.
