Obituary of Clifford E. Thompson

FORT MYERS, FL - Clifford E. Thompson passed away on April 28, 2022 in Fort Myers, FL after 96 wonderful years. He was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1926 in Troy, New York. The son of Clarence and Esther Thompson, Cliff grew up with his brother James in Pleasantdale in Troy and graduated from Lansingburgh High School, Class of 1943. He served in the Navy during World War II from 1944-1946. He was employed by John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance before he retired in 1986 after 32 years with many awards from John Hancock and generations of families in his portfolio. He was the beloved husband of Betty Jane (Larkin) living a happy life together for 65 years. Cliff married Betty on her birthday, February 13, 1949. Betty predeceased Cliff in 2014 in Fort Myers, FL, their full-time residence since 2006. Cliff and Betty loved to square dance and were a founding couple of the Colonie Elks and Does Square Dancers for many years. He built a summer camp at Methodist Farm on Crooked Lake in Averill Park, NY and the family spent over 30 happy summers there. Cliff was well known and active at Tropicana Park in Fort Myers as an auto enthusiast, pool shark at billiards, bicycle repairs and a great friend to many. Clifford was the loving father of Gary Thompson (Deb Monforte) of Troy, Scott and Candy Thompson of Fort Myers, FL; Uncle to Terry (Billie) Thompson of Cincinnati, OH, Bruce Yarter, David Yarter, Joann and Wim Niles of Clifton Park, New York. Cliff was predeceased by his beloved wife Betty, his brother, James Thompson and nephew John Thompson.
