Obituary of Gregory Albert Hammond

Gregory Albert Hammond died on October 3rd, 2019, in Albany, New York. He was born in Queens, New York, on August 6th, 1961 to Geraldine Ciolino (formerly Hammond) and Albert Hammond. Greg grew up on Long Island, instilling in him a lifelong love of the beach and the ocean. He was devoted to his friends and brothers on Brook Street, and he told stories of their childhood adventures all his life. He moved to upstate New York with his young family in the early 1990s, and called the area home for the rest of his life. Greg was a highly skilled technician and was good at working with his hands. However, he was never defined by what he did to make money. He always found deeper fulfillment in his poetry, writing, and painting. He was an avid reader, and he reached for everything from graphic novels and fiction, to science and history. He loved to learn about the stars and the earth and would spend hours on the beach or out camping pointing out different constellations and stars and planets, and talking about the universe. He never failed to share his wide-ranging curiosity, immense intellect, and vast kindness. He will be greatly missed. Greg is survived by his mother and father, his brothers Russell and Wayne, his sons, Nick and Chris, and his step-siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his step-father, Stephen Ciolino, and his step-brother, Joseph Ciolino. A memorial gathering will be held Tuesday, October 8th, 2019, at the Riverview Funeral Home in Troy, New York.
