Charles Darmanjian, Sr.

Obituary of Charles A. Darmanjian, Sr.

Troy, NY A family lost their hero, when Charles A. Darmanjian Sr. (63), passed away peacefully Friday, November 30th at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by the people he loved, and who loved him in return. Born in Troy, he was the beloved son of Harold Darmanjian Sr. and the late Mary Phyllis Darmanjian. He was the dearly loved brother of Anthony and Donna Darmanjian. He was predeceased by brothers Harold Jr. and David Darmanjian. Charles, along with his best friend and wife of 42 years, Nancy J. (Mallory) Darmanjian, had three children, Tina (Darmanjian) Banks (Rich King), Charles Jr. (Sarah) and Nicholas Darmanjian (Marlayna Sullivan). He was a proud father and was lovingly called "Papa" by his treasured grandchildren Amanda (Banks) Thurber, Zachary Smith, Kennedi Banks, Rhegan King and Alex Darmanjian. Charles graduated from Linton High School in 1973. He drove a cement truck at Bonded Concrete for 30 years, where he shared laughter, memories, and friendships with his coworkers. Charles was a good and kind man. He loved his family and cherished his car, a 1969 Chevy Impala convertible. He spoiled his English bulldog "Frank". Every year, without fail, Charles would appear as Santa on Christmas Eve, to hand out presents to his extended family. Whether you ran into him on the street, or at one of the many classic car shows he never missed, he always made you feel like a friend, even if you were a stranger. He was the kind of man, who would talk to you, like an old friend, for half an hour, before you realized you haven't even exchanged names. He loved old, broken, cast away cars and things found at garage sales, because he knew, with a little effort, they could be made useful, and important again. He saw things for how beautiful they could be, no matter how broken they were. Even if it was your first time having dinner with him and his family, he made you feel like you had been there a hundred times before. Like that seat at the table had always been there, empty and waiting for you to fill it. He will be missed by all who knew him. A wake will be held at Riverview Funeral Home 218 2nd Ave. Troy, NY on Wednesday December 5th from 4-7 p.m. Family only from 3-4 p.m. Please join the family to celebrate Charles life immediately following the wake at the Forty One Sports Bar & Grille on 112th Street, Troy.
