Obituary of Mary Jean Capen
SCHENECTADY
Mary Jean Capen of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2016 surrounded by her family.
She was born November 4, 1929 in Brandon, VT to the late Harold and Ruth Bishop.
She was formerly employed by the Van Dyck Restaurant, Schenectady School District, and Loblaws. She was a member of the Wesleyan Church for the past 70 years.
The majority of her life was spent as a homemaker.
She was known by all for her delicious baked goods. She loved gardening and took great pleasure in canning her own homegrown produce. Mary Jean may have left Vermont 64 years ago, but Vermont never left her!
Mary Jean will be reunited in heaven with her loving husband, Erwin.
She was predeceased by her siblings; Lucielle Williams, Harold Bishop, Jr., Thomas Bishop and Reginald Bishop; her grandchildren Kevin Bombard and Caleb Capen; and her great grandchild, Emma Jane Schanz.
She is survived by a sister, Ruth Mary Carey of Forestdale, VT.
She will be dearly missed by her five children Robert (Diane) Capen, Prudence (Harry) Bombard, Earlyne (Anthony) Daddario, Sidney Capen, and Cynthia (John) Spuzy. She also leaves 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday (June 2) at Awaken Church, (formerly known as: Balltown Wesleyan Church), 935 Balltown Rd., Niskayuna.
A calling hour will precede the service beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
