Obituary of Matthew John Kearney

Troy, NY Matthew John Kearney, 55, of Albany, passed away peacefully at his brother's home in Troy on February 27, 2016. Matt was born on May 27, 1960 to the late John and Elizabeth (Dugan) Kearney, formerly of Guilderland, NY. Matt graduated from Guilderland High School in 1978. He earned an associates degree from Hudson Valley Community College in 1980 and attended the College of Saint Rose in the Music Department. Matt was an avid musician and music lover all of his life. He was a composer and multi-instrumentalist, who enjoyed performing with local musicians and friends. Survived by his brother Mark C. Kearney (Diane Simpson) of Troy, his niece Amelia Stickelmyer, and numerous cousins including Katherine Bishop, Mary Dugan and Michael McCormick. Matt's family wishes to express gratitude for the support of friends and family, near and far, who have reached out over the past year. Special thanks to all of his caregivers including Amelia Stickelmyer, the staff at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation, Community Hospice and his "favorite" visitor Carol Cramer. Matt's illness and death reminds us of the fragility of life, the importance of cherishing each day and appreciating our loved ones. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Community Hospice. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday (March 4th) at Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) Troy. The funeral will be held on Saturday (March 5th) at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 310 Spring Ave, Troy, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
