Obituary of Joseph Charles "Joe" Rustin,Sr.

Waterford, NY- Joseph Charles Rustin, Sr., 78, of Waterford, passed away on July 19, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family. Joe was born in Glens Falls, NY. He was the seventh child born to the late Wilbur and Ellen (Hale) Rustin. Joe joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 and served 4 years. Upon being honorably discharged, he then went on to work at Leaseway of Eastern, New York. From there, he went to Leo's Overhead Doors, and lastly was employed at LeRoy Holding, where he retired. Joe was a member of the American Legion of Cohoes and the VFW of Waterford. He was also an avid card player and enjoyed fishing. Joe is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha Moore Howd Rustin. He was the proud father of: Maryellen (Russell) Chamberlain of Poestenskill, Joseph Rustin, Jr. of Provincetown, Massachusetts, David Rustin of Troy, Karen Tanner of Waterford, Eric Rustin of Waterford and grandfather of five grandchildren: Kjelene, Evan and Adam Chamberlain, Dante Daigneault-Rustin, and Timothy Rustin. Joe is also survived by two sisters: Phyllis Angell of Sebring, Florida and Ellen (Paul) Hughes of Watervliet, five brothers: Irvin (Carm) Rustin of Greenfield Center, Thomas (Dawn) Rustin of Williams, Arizona, Paul (Barbara) Rustin of Avon Park, Florida, Theodore (Ruth) Rustin of Lake Placid, Florida and John (Carolyn) Rustin of Pleasantdale. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his siblings: Rhoda Bruce, Alice Lebentritt, David Rustin and Carlese Rustin. The funeral service will commence at 9AM on Thursday, July 23 from the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) in Lansingburgh. Interment with military honors, will immediately follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon - Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4pm until 8pm on Wednesday, July 22 at the Riverview Funeral Home.
