Obituary of Latwan C. Hankins

Albany, NY- Latwan C. Hankins, 21, of Albany, was taken from us tragically on Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Born in Albany on April 7, 1994, Latwan was the son of Joshon Ross and Annie Hankins. He was a lifelong Albany resident and grew up in the West Hill neighborhood. Latwan was a graduate of Albany High School, class of 2012. He was currently a student at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. Latwan was concentrating on vocational studies with the intention of working with computers and technology, which was one of his, many passions. To further his studies, Latwan planned to transfer to ITT Technical Institute in Albany. When Latwan wasn't studying he would work on cars at his uncle's business WND Towing in Albany. He also worked in the local food pantry. Latwan's passions were basketball, videogames and computers. He loved kids and often looked out for the children in the parks, he also worked with Albany youth during summer programs. Latwan frequented the local YMCA where he held a membership. Another favorite pastime was cookouts with friends and family. His favorite food was chicken and seafood. Latwan always said "F.O.E. = Family Over Everything". He was very respectful of his elders and is remembered as being a quiet and peaceful young man. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him. Survivors include his parents, Joshon Ross and Annie Hankins, his brother EL'Quan Sturdivant, his sisters Navesha and Melesha Hyman, his uncle Roy Hankins, uncle and aunt Charles and Patricia Williams and aunt Sharon Ferrell. Latwan is also survived by his girlfriend Niekka Scott, her son Khiry, and his real-close cousin (Kutty) Soupie. There is a host of other surviving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, too many to name, as well as his huge family on his father's side the Ross/Brace Family. Latwan was predeceased by his grandmother Sallie Ferrell, and his uncle George Hankins. Home going funeral service in celebration of Latwan's life will be held on Wednesday, May 6, at 12 Noon at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 441 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY 12206. Viewing will be from 10 am to 11:45 AM, prior to the service. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Albany, NY. Latwan's care and arrangements have been entrusted to the Riverview Funeral Home of Troy, NY.
