Obituary of Marvin Bernard Palatsky

Marvin Bernard Palatsky, 78, of Averill Park, New York, died April 11, 2015 at his home in Averill Park, New York. Born in Troy, New York. He was the son of the late Lazarus I. and Estelle (Harris) Palatsky. He grew up in Watervliet. His parents owned the Broadway Bazaar Dry Goods store on Broadway in Watervliet for many years, which is well remembered by many local residents. Marvin attended Watervliet schools and was inducted into the United States Army, serving two tours of duty from 1959 to 1962. He was married on July 30, 1963 in New Canaan, Connecticut to the late Marjorie Ann (Martin) Palatsky, who passed away in 2003. They made their home in Averill Park, New York where the family has resided for nearly 50 years. He worked for Sealtest and Bordens Dairies as a delivery route driver during the 1960's. In the 1970's Marvin began working in the kitchens of the Siena College Friary, in Loudonville, New York. He remained there becoming Chef Supervisor until transferring to the Glenmont Job Corp in 1991 as a kitchen supervisor and chef until his retirement in 2010. Always well liked, he will always be remembered by his family and friends for his quick wit and happy demeanor. His beloved sister, Mrs. Joan S. Copeland passed away March 12, 2015. He leaves behind his six children, Keith M. Hall (Margaret) of Raymond, ME, Kevin R. Hall (Bernadette) of Troy, NY, Lon E. Palatsky of Detroit, MI, Jodi A. Rush (John) of Detroit, MI, Elisa Hotaling of Averill Park, NY, Staci Palatsky of Ocala, FL and predeceased by daughter, Tracey Lynn Palatsky, who died in infancy and is buried in North Adams, MA. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and his nephew Mark Coplan of Atlanta, GA. A service and interment will take place at the family plot at Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, NY on April 20, 2015 at 11am. A precession will start at the Chapel at Oakwood Cemetery to the final gravesite. A reception will follow at 1pm at the West Sand Lake Firehouse Banquet Hall located next door to the firehouse. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Riverview Funeral Home, Inc., Troy, NY.
