Obituary of Dorothy P. Wing

Troy, NY- Dorothy P. Wing, 89, of Troy, died on the evening of March 7, 2015 following a long illness. Her loving family was by her side. Born on May 5, 1925 in Saranac, NY, she was a daughter of the late John Z(S)mithrovitch and Josephine Czesnowicz Lisowki. Dorothy received her education from the Lyon Mountain High School and made her home here in Troy. Outside of the home, Dorothy was a machine operator in industrial manufacturing; she retired from the Behr-Manning/Norton Company in Watervliet after 37 years of service. She was a member of the Norton Retirees and St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh. As a devout Catholic, Dorothy faithfully supported several shrines and missions. She was an avid bingo player, but her greatest enjoyment was the time she spent with her friends and family, especially having conversations over good meals. Dorothy was the wife of the late Reginald J. Wing; whom she married in St. Peter's Church in Troy on May 5, 1946. Their union lasted 41 years until his passing on April 8, 1988. Survivors include her children: Nancy Wing, Rodney (Karla) Wing, Rev. Douglas (Stacy) Wing, her grandchildren: Kiersten, Marissa, Logan and Daniel Wing, and one sister, Ann Chartrand. Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was predeceased by her siblings: Charles, John, Anthony, Joseph, Mary, Peter Z(S)mithrovitch and Francis Gambill. A special thanks to neighbors Carol Gensicki, Mary and Bob Zink who were faithful friends for 40 years. The family also wishes to express their gratitude to the Rensselaer County Community Hospice, in particular, Jamie and Jeff, as well as the South 5th Floor Staff of St. Mary's Hospital. Dorothy's Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 11th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church, Lansingburgh. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford. At Dorothy's request there will be no public calling hours, viewing will be private for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
