Obituary of Arnold Joseph Downer, Jr.

Troy, NY- Arnold Joseph Downer, Jr., a lifelong resident of Troy died on Wednesday morning, January 7, 2015 at Samaritan Hospital following a bout against aggressive lung cancer. He was 43 years young. Born in Troy on December 13, 1971, Arnold was a son of Margaret (Recore) Downer and the late Arnold Joseph Downer, Sr. Arnold was raised in Troy and resided in this area his whole life. He was a mechanic by trade and was employed by Duffy's Taxi Service based in Albany, NY. Arnold will be sorely missed but fondly remembered as being a helpful loving man who could fix anything and was a proud mechanic, but above all, he will be remembered as being a family man and loving father. Arnold loved his children and his grandchildren. He would do anything for his nephews and he cherished his baby boy Liam. Those left to cherish Arnold's memory include his companion Emily A. Williams of Troy, his children Nathan Ellis, Steven Ellis, Kayla Downer, Mildred Jackson and Liam Joseph Downer all of Troy. His mother Margaret Daisy (Recore) Downer, his siblings Connie Hunt of Latham, Margo Downer and Larry Downer both of Troy and Clifford Downer, Sr. of East Greenbush. Arnold is also survived by two granddaughters, Alonnah and Lilliannah Ortiz as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Arnold was predeceased by his father and a toddler niece. Arnold's Family will receive relatives and friends from 10 AM until 12 Noon on Friday, January 9, 2015, at the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) in Lansingburgh, where funeral services will commence at 12 Noon.
