Obituary of Alice J. Percuoco

Alice J. Percuoco passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014 in Oneonta, NY at 97 years young. A nearly lifelong resident of Troy, NY, she moved to Robynwood Adult Home on November 5, 2010 to be near her daughter, and in May of 2014 became a resident of A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home, Oneonta, NY. Alice was born to the late Samuel Spiak and Mary Kwotchka of Watervliet on January 13, 1917. Alice attended Troy High School and worked at Cluett and Peabody, a clothing manufacturer, in Troy, NY, where she met her future husband, the late Patrick Percuoco. They married on May 11, 1941 at St. Patrick's Church, Watervliet, NY. Alice was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy, NY. She worked for 15 years at the New York State Dept. of Taxation and Finance on the campus in Albany, NY. For twenty years Alice was an active member of the Troy Senior Citizens Center. She was also a regular visitor to friends and neighbors who had gone into area nursing homes. Her most recent enjoyments were scratch offs and visits from old and new friends including her two favorite doggies - Rusty who is in Heaven and Rosie who gave Alice great moments of delight. In short, Alice lived an extraordinary "ordinary" life doing all the things that could be expected of her and doing for many others that could not do for themselves. She grew up during the Great Depression and had an admirable set of values regarding what was important in life. She always had a cheerful disposition and a ready smile for anyone she encountered and was beloved by her children's friends as she was by friends of her own age. She is survived by one sister, Helen Williams, 90, of Lake Luzerne, NY and two children: Carolyn Battista of Oneonta, NY, and Ronald Percuoco of Burbank, California. She is also survived by nieces Elizabeth Vassallo, Nancy Traugut, Kim Percuoco and nephews Craig Williams, Brian Percuoco and James Percuoco. She was predeceased by her brothers Steven Spiak, Walter Spiak, Peter Spiak, and her sisters Julia Bottiger, Esther Pfister, Polly Weathers and Sophie Spiak, as well as by a niece, Constance (Percuoco) Tolbert.
