Obituary of Betty Jane Thompson

Betty Jane (Larkin) Thompson, 88, of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Troy, NY passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014. She was born on February 13, 1926 in Troy, NY. Before moving to Florida, Betty lived in Pleasantdale and was a summer resident for over 45 years at Methodist Farm on Crooked Lake in Averill Park, NY. Betty was a graduate of Troy High School and worked for the Department of Education New York State Regents Division in Albany. Her job was to handwrite the names of each diploma given to graduates who earned a NYS Regents Diploma. She had been an active member of Lansingburgh Presbyterian Church for many years. Betty and Cliff were one of the founding couples of Colonie Elks and Does Square Dancers, traveled and performed all over the Northeast. She loved to read; crocheted hats for newborns; knitted mittens for many children and church fundraisers; enjoyed oil painting; and wrote poetry. Betty loved her NY Yankees. She was the beloved wife of Clifford Thompson for 63 years; mother of Gary Thompson (Deb Monforte) of Troy, and Scott and Candy Thompson of Fort Myers, Florida; Aunt to Bruce and Debbie Yarter, David Yarter, Joann and Wim Niles. Betty was preceded in death by her sisters Dorothy Eagle, Helen Mahoney, Joan Yarter; and brother Walter Trimble. A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday May 16th, from 10AM until 12PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) in Lansingburgh, with interment following in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.
