Obituary of Velma M. St. Jock

Troy Velma M. St. Jock, 91, formerly of 10th Street, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. Velma was born in Belvidere, VT to the late Adelbert Blaisdell and Hazel Eldred Blaisdell. In 1952 the family moved from Middelbury, VT to Poestenkill from there they moved to Troy in 1954. Velma graduated from Johnsonville Academy in Johnsonville, VT where she earned her high school diploma. Velma was employed by the Troy Record as Manager of Maintenance for many years. She also was a waitress at Duncan's Dairy Bar in Center Brunswick for many years. Her most important occupation was that of homemaker and mother thereby earning her the coveted title of President of the "Motherhood Association." Everywhere she went she was known as Ma and Grandma. Velma loved people and was a real "people person". She was also an avid gardener tending her plants and flowers for hours, she loved the soil which was very natural for her coming from a farm background. Velma was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Roger E. St. Jock. Velma is survived by her two daughters: Sandra St. Jock Tucker of Mechanicville and Bonnie M. Hudson of Troy; one sister Ila Bowdish, of Weybridge, VT, as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides her husband, Velma was predeceased by four other children: Donna Mae Cobb, Ronald Roger St. Jock, Gary Lee St. Jock and Elizabeth "Betty" Julien. Funeral Monday morning at 11 o'clock from the Chapel at Riverview Funeral Home, Inc., 218 2nd Avenue, (corner of 104th St.) Lansingburgh, Troy, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to attend any may also call at The Riverview Funeral Home from 9 to 11 am on Monday, prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow at St. John's Cemetery, Lansingburgh, Troy, NY.
