Jared Winchell

Obituary of Jared S. Winchell

Jared Winchell, age 27, of Albany, NY (formerly of Glens Falls and Saratoga) went into the waiting and open arms of God on November 7, 2013, following an 11 year struggle to recover from Traumatic Brain Injury caused by a car accident on November 16, 2002. He has passed on his own terms and on his own timeline. After his accident, Jared enjoyed spending time with his family. Sue Kloss, his devoted mother cared for him for all of his life. Jared is remembered by his brother John Mowka (Abby) and two sisters Janet M. Jobst (Brandt) and Jennifer F. Steuer (Harlan). Jared had nine nephews and nieces who will always remember him as the 'uncle with the cool wheels': Padraic and Peyton Hohenstein, Deacon and Jacob Mowka, Olivia, Benjamin and Rebecca Steuer, Jude and Marek Jobst, and his stepfather Terry Kloss. He was predeceased by his father, maternal grandparents, Douglas L. and Betty T. Stewart, and Ludwig and Dorothea Kloss, his loving step-grandparents who embraced him as their own, all who wait patiently for him to join them. Jared's life was a wonderful lesson for all who knew him; he taught patience, love, laughter and above all resilience. Jared's accident may have taken his voice and some of his physical abilities, but he used his life to teach others, and to brings smiles to those around him. Through all of this he never lost his sense of humor. Because of his limited physical ability, he loved beating his sisters and brother in thumb wars, watching his nieces and nephews play, and giving wheelchair rides. He loved Bob Marley, 7 Mary 3, and The Doors, and funny movies. Before his accident he was a sophomore at Saratoga High School. Jared was still able to attend school and graduated from Mohannasen High School in Rotterdam in 2007. The Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital helped Jared to pass from this life to the next, helping him to push the 'reset' button to be able to roam heaven, find out the answers to all his questions and reconnect with family members who are already there. He wants everyone to be happy for him in his new, eternal life and will be waiting for the rest of us. A Celebration of Jared's life will be held at the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) Troy, NY on Sunday, November 10th beginning at 3 PM.
