Obituary of Albert W. Nock
Albert W. Nock, 91, of Troy, NY, died peacefully on September 20, 2013 at his home, which was always filled with family and friends.
Al was born on February 22, 1922 in New York City and grew up in Kingston, NY.
He was the first-born son of the late Albert W. Nock and Winifred Barr Nock, and was predeceased by his brothers John Nock, William Nock and his sister Elinor O'Hare.
He graduated from Kingston High School where he was a star football player and class officer. Al was a veteran of WWII, having served with the Fighting 69th Infantry in Europe.
Upon his return to the States he was employed by Cluett Peabody.
With only a high school degree, his intelligence, creativity, and clear thinking allowed him to rise from a clerk to the manager of distribution for the entire company. He also regularly volunteered for a number of charities, most recently with Care Links in Clifton Park, NY.
Al met the first love of his life, Doris Petersen, in Woodstock, NY in 1938 and they were married on March 4, 1944.
After 65 years of marriage, Doris passed away on February 9, 2000.
His eldest son, Robert, died soon after on March 3, 2000 after a 31 year battle with quadriplegia.
Al is survived by his daughter, Arlene Nock, of Troy, NY -- who was blessed to have him live with her for the last 4 months of his life -- and his son, Richard M. Nock, of Ticonderoga, NY.
He is also survived by 6 grandchildren whom he adored and who cherished him:
Jessica Nock, Julie Knoblauch and Alexandria Knoblauch of Troy, NY, Heidi Knoblauch of Brooklyn, NY, Jonathan Nock of Charleston, SC, and Matthew Nock of Boulder, CO.
Al will also be missed by his daughter-in-law, Angela Benedetto, who was like his second daughter, his sister-in-law, Audrey Nock, and brothers-in-law, Martin Petersen and Emmett O'Hare. He is loved by his nieces Christine, Darlene, Gail, Robyn, Catherine, Virginia and Margaret and their families. He will also remain forever in the heart of the second love of his life, Judy Malone of Troy, NY.
