Obituary of Doris Ruth Simmons

Troy, NY Doris Ruth Simmons, 88, entered heavens gates on May 5, 2013. Doris was born on March 4, 1925 in Watervliet, NY, daughter of the late John and Ruth Wallace O'Brien. For most of her life, Doris resided in Troy, NY. She had many passions in life; her four children and their families, her love for the nursing and teaching professions, her books as well as her immense desire to conquer the daily crossword puzzle. She was full of wit, wisdom and humor; a wonderful mother, nanny and great grandmother, a teacher of life and someone who was welcome where ever she went. Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Edmund Leo Simmons, her son Edmund John Simmons and daughter, Kathleen Simmons Garland. She is survived by her daughter, Dianne La Pierre (Richard), son, Timothy Simmons (JoAnn), daughter-in-law, Maria Simmons and 8 grandchildren: Kimberly La Pierre Earl, Erin Dolan, Shannon Dolan McDaniel, Courtney Dolan, Kyle Simmons, Katie Simmons, Timothy Simmons and Maureen Simmons and 6 great grandchildren: Joshua Earl, Gillian Earl, Jack McDaniel, Liam McDaniel, Colin Dolan Osen and Conner McDaniel. Her daughter-in-law, Maria Simmons lovingly cared for Doris for the last months of her life, the family gives her and the staff at Mary's Haven their greatest gratitude. Mom, Nan, Nanny Doe Doe, we will love you always with a love that is tried and true, you will remain in our hearts forever. A funeral service for Doris will be conducted on Saturday morning, May 11th at 10 o'clock at the Riverview Funeral Home, Inc., 218 2nd Avenue at 104th Street, Troy, NY 12180. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 10th from 5 to 7 pm. Her interment will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Belle Avenue, Troy, NY.
