Obituary of Evelyn B. Palmer

Lowville, NY Evelyn B. Palmer, 87, formerly of Poestenkill, NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 in Lowville, NY. Evelyn was born in Watervliet, NY on January 19, 1926 to the late Walter and Irene Wallace Bentley. Evelyn graduated from Drew University in NJ with a BA Degree. She then went on to Boston University where she earned her MA degree in Social Work. For most of her career she was employed at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, specializing in Geriatric Placement. Upon leaving Samaritan she went on to work with Children and Family Service Agencies in the Troy area. On February 22, 1960, Evelyn married, Paul C. Palmer, at the First Baptist Church of Troy, NY. They then settled in Poestenkill, a place Evelyn loved dearly, there they lived and raised their family. Paul died in 1993. In 2003, Evelyn moved to Lowville, NY so he could be closer to her daughter, Shereen and grandchildren. Evelyn was a member of the First Reformed Church of Wynantskill and an active member of the Poestenkill Seniors as well as attending other senior groups in Wynantskill and Watervliet. She was an avid reader, loved music, travel and most especially being with her grandchildren and watching them grow. Besides her parents and her husband, her brother, Walter Bentley, Jr, predeceased Evelyn. Evelyn is survived by her two daughters: Esther S. Palmer of Poestenkill and Shereen Palmer, MD (Steve Lyndaker, MD) of Lowville and step-daughter, Alice (Ronald) Castagnier of Poestenkill, a sister, Eleanor Mac Murray of Albany; grandchildren: Catherine, Sarah, Anna, Emily and Andrew Lyndaker all of Lowville, NY and Brian, David and Stephen Castagnier. She was the aunt of: Rick, Rob, Tim and Janine Stowell and Ron, Donna and Ellen Bentley. Evelyn's funeral will be held on Monday morning, April 15th, at 10 o'clock at the First Reformed Church of Wynantskill with the Rev. Donald Pangburn officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) Troy, NY 12180, on Sunday from 4 to 6 PM. Her interment will immediately follow the service in Evergreen Cemetery in Wynantskill.
