Obituary of Guilbert Francis Soucy
TROY - Reverend Guilbert Francis Alexis Soucy, 85, a man of Science
and a man of God, lost his battle with cancer on February 18, 2013. He
entered eternal rest with his only son by his side. Listening to hymns
and prayers in french. Born June 28, 1927 in Troy, NY, he was the son of Wilfred
G. Soucy and Marion E. Voege.
In 1989 Guilbert retired from the NYS Office of General Services, Albany, NY
after 36 years of service as an Electrical Engineer; he
also held several U.S. patents.
Rev. Soucy provided religious counsel and sermon in French and English
for various congregations for years, and was a long time member of St. Paul's
Episcopalian Church in Troy, NY.
Guilbert encouraged lifelong learning and had an affinity for
technology and science. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
in Troy, NY during his younger years, while working at the OGS. Guil's love of learning impelled him to return to school during his later life
as a student and
then a tutor at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY.
He donated materials to HVCC's Math department in 2004.
As a young man, he was an athletic weightlifter. Guilbert enjoyed
winter swimming from youth to beyond retirement, and was a member of
the Polar Bear Club. At many birthdays, festivals and other events, he
was known as Scap-A-Doo, the clown. He liked playing the pipe organ
that he constructed, and he never passed up a cup of imported or
flavored coffee. Following retirement, he operated a small printing
business from his home as a leisure pursuit.
Guilbert is survived by an only son, David F. Soucy of Troy, NY; three
beloved grandchildren: Davinya, Daniel F. and Dana R. Soucy of Troy,
