Obituary of Dominick Joseph Guliano
Rotterdam
Dominick J. Guliano, 89, of Crestwood Drive, Rotterdam, passed away at home on Saturday, November 3, 2012 after a long illness.
Dominick was born in Schenectady to the late Angelo and Nunziata Palangi Giuliano and was a life long area resident.
Dom joined the United States Navy serving proudly aboard the USS MIssouri from 1944 to 1946.
He was a Seaman 1st Class and saw heavy action in the Pacific Theater being involved in the battles of: Iwo Jima, Okinawa, the Phillippines as well as the bombardment of Japan.
He was on deck for the signing of the surrender with Japan on August of 1945.
He was awarded the Purple Heart as well as The American Theater Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal (3 Stars) and the Victory Medal.
He also participated in the Mediterranean Peace Cruise aboard the USS Missouri.
After serving in the US Navy, Dom worked at the American Locomotive Co. in Schenectady.
In 1960 he became a Letter Carrier with the US Postal Service, until his retirement in 1983 after 23 years of devoted service.
While with the postal service Dominick earned many safe driver awards.
He was a member of the DAV and former communicant of St. Mary's Church in Schenectady.
Dominick is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rose Marie Zeno Guliano whom he married on April 26, 1947 at St. Joseph's Church in Oswego, NY.
He is also survived by his two daughters: Nancy Anne Morris (Ronald) and Anne Marie Bordeau (Roy) both of Rotterdam, his loving granddaughters: Michelle Budka (Thomas, Sr.) of Scotia and Andrea Bordeau, currently of Amarillo, TX and great grandson, Thomas Budka, Jr., siblings: Edward Turner of El Paso, TX and Albert Giuliano of Cohoes, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Dom was pre-deceased by his sister, Jean Giuliano and brothers Felice Jiuliano and Joseph Juliano.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday morning, November 9, 2012 at the Riverview Funeral Home, Inc., 218 2nd Avenue, Troy, NY 12180 (corner of 104th Street), with the Rev. Father Jeffrey M. L'Arche, M.S. officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the Riverview Funeral Home on Friday morning from 10 to 11 am.
Entombment with full military honors will follow at St. Cyril and Method Cemetery, Duanesburg Road, Rotterdam, NY.
