Obituary of Arlene Helen Powles

Rotterdam Arlene Helen Powles, 78, of Curry Road, died surrounded by her family at Albany Medical Center on Sunday, October 21st, after a short illness. Born in Schenectady, Arlene was a lifelong resident of Rotterdam. She graduated from Draper High School and then went on to obtain a two year degree from the Eastman School of Dental Hygiene. She worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. DeLuke in Schenectady from 1954 to 1956 then on to Fort Dix, NJ and finally at Walter Reed in Washington, DC from 1957 to 1958. She was a former communicant of Immaculate Conception Church where she married her husband of 56 years, Ronald G. Powles on May 13, 1956. She was currently a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Rotterdam. Besides her husband, Arlene is survived by her three sons: Drew M. Powles (Andrea), of Oak Hill, VA, Jason J. Powles (Anne) of New Hartford, NY and Varian P. Powles of Glenville. She was the sister of: Kathleen Ward (William) of Sparta, NJ, grandmother of: Reed, Ryan, Rachael and Jillian Powles; aunt of Mark and Terry Ward and Kelley Kisatskey. Funeral Saturday morning at 10:15 from the Ferrari Funeral Home (inside Jones Funeral Home) 1503 Union Street (at McClellan) and at 11 o'clock from Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Princetown Road, Rotterdam where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9 to 10 am. Interment in Schenectady Memorial Park, Rotterdam. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Riverview Funeral Home, Inc., Roy F. Bordeau, Funeral Director.
