Obituary of John Edward Delap

Johnsonville, NY John E. Delap, 85 of Miclette Way, Johnsonville, passed away early Monday morning at his home surrounded by his loving family, he was 85 years old. Born in Troy, NY to the late John P. and Harriet A. Stoddard Delap, John lived in Troy, Poestenkill and Averill Park before moving to Johnsonville. John worked for 34 years with Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. He started as a laborer with the Gas Department in Troy, eventually moving up to Maintenance Supervisor at a Steam Station. He retired in 1987. John served proudly in the US Army as a Technician Fifth Grade with the 2nd Constabulary Squadron. John was a member of the Hendrik Hudson Fish & Game Club, the Poestenkill V.F.W. and was a life member of the N.R.A. He will be remembered as a man of honor and integrity. John truly loved his wife of 58 years, Ann K. Ring Delap. They just celebrated that 58th year on September 5th having been married in 1954 at St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh. John and Ann delighted in their many trips to Ireland. John and his faithful canine friend, Murphy, enjoyed hunting. John also enjoyed sports especially; Little League Baseball and Troy and Watervliet Football. He looked forward to his weekly visits with his friend Floyd. Besides his wife, John is survived by five children: Jack P. Delap (Cindy) of Watervliet, Erin K. Delap of Troy, Maureen A. Austin (Drew) of Watervliet, Timothy D. Delap (Wanda) of Rocky Mount, NC and Meghan L. Belcher (Brud) of Las Vegas, NV. John was proud grandfather of: John, Michael, Nathan, Timothy, Sarah, Alison and Ian as well as 4 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings: Margaret Weismann and Ethel McDuff. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at the Riverview Funeral Home, Inc., 218 2nd Avenue, Troy (corner of 104th St.) . Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery, Lansingburgh.
