Obituary of Martha Ellen Johnson

Martha Ellen Kiley Johnson Martha Ellen Kiley Johnson, 97, peacefully went to heaven on May 30, 2012, at Van Rensselaer Manor in Troy. She was a lifelong resident of Troy, and for 54 years, she was the beloved wife of the late LeRoy J. Johnson, Jr. of Troy. Martha was born on September 11, 1914, the daughter of John and Ellen (Yager) Kiley of Troy. Martha attended Haskell School and Lansingburgh High. She worked in many factories in the area, and was a floor supervisor at both Nuremberg and then Tek Hughs Corp. She served on the Brunswick Fire Auxiliary and was a member of both the Sycaway and Waterford Seniors Clubs. Martha was a parishioner of St Mary's in Waterford and a member of Our Lady of Victory in Troy. Her love surrounded her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She leaves her four children: Mary Ellen Wick and her husband Charles Wick of Tolland, CT; F. Donald Burgess of Deming, NM; LeRoy J. Johnson and his wife Dawn of Merritt Island, FL; and Colleen Ann Smith and her husband Albert Smith of Bumpass, VA. and step-daughter, Beverly Brogue of Petersburg, NY. She was a wonderful story teller. She always enjoyed making up and telling her stories at bedtime to her children and grandchildren about Mr. Pippins. Mr. Pippins lived in an apple tree in her yard, and the children were sure that he really did live there. She will be missed so much by her grandchildren: Charles and David Wick of Tolland, Ct; John and Donald Burgess of Diamond Point, NY; Laura, Adam and Colin Smith of Bumpass, VA; Roy Johnson , Dawn and Jimmy Malone - great grandchildren: Kieley Wick, Sarah and David Wick Jr.; Ashley , Kayla and Michael Burgess - great great grandchildren Keagan and Kaydence Grady. Martha is survived by her brother, John J. Kiley, his wife Frances, a niece Lyn Morin of Johnsonville, NY; a grand nephew, Michael Morin; a grand niece, Jessica Morin; and a cousin, Elizabeth Ryan and her husband Jack. Martha was predeceased by her baby sister, Mary Francis Kiley her grandson, Paul Johnson and step-daughter, June Pine. Our family wishes to sincerely thank the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor where Martha happily resided for the last three years, receiving loving care and friendship. A special thanks to Michelle and Colleen, in section 2A. Funeral Thursday morning at 9:15 from the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th St.) Troy, NY and at 10 o'clock at Our Lady of Victory Church, Marshland Ct., Troy, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. Martha's burial will follow at Elmwood Hill Cemetery of Troy on Belle Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brunswick Fire Dept, 566 Hoosick Street, Troy, NY 12180.
