We don't want to keep them any longer than we have to, they are a huge liiltbiay for a few reasons, for instance if we were to have a fire or if they were to be lost or stolen. That is why we find out who is picking up the ashes and set a date and time for pick-up, otherwise some people never come for them at all, and we end up with a closet full of unclaimed ashes, and you can surely bet that if we had a fire, the Joe Schmoe who never bothered to pick up his father's ashes would be the first in line with a lawsuit.
