Obituary of Esther Theresa Sawicki

Esther Theresa (Godlewski) Sawicki Esther Theresa Sawicki, nee Godlewski, passed over to the arms of her Lord on July 9, 2010 after a stay at St. Peter's Hospice. Born March 26, 1922 in Chicago, she had to quickly begin work at a young age to support her mother and sisters forgoing the formal education she desired. She held a variety of jobs, especially in the then burgeoning electronics industry and assisted the efforts during WW II. Always an extremely hard and dedicated worker, she began work at the United States Postal Service in 1965 being one of the first female carriers employed. She worked her way up to various administrative positions in the Post Office in Midlothian, Illinois retiring in 1987. After several years of retirement, she moved to Berlin, New York in 1994 to be closer to her son David. She later moved to East Greenbush, New York. During her retirement, she maintained her independence and interest in reading, gardening, painting, spiritual musings and most importantly her dogs that were an important part of her life. She is survived by her son P. David Sawicki of Averill Park, New York; her daughter Esther Vandergrift in Winter Haven, Florida; her grandsons, Arthur Vandergrift in Joliet, Illinois ;and Chad Vandergrift in Chicago, Illinois; and her granddaughter, Angela, in Spring Grove, Illinois. No services will be held. Her son David wishes to express the deep appreciation to all the staff at the Hospice Inn of St. Peter's Hospital for the caring and devotion. In lieu of any flowers, contributions may be made to St. Peter's Hospice or Peppertree Rescue, PO Box 2396, Albany, New York.
