Obituary of Douglas R. Paulsen

Douglas Robert Paulsen "But to you, dear father, since no requital equal to your desert and no deeds equal to your gifts are within my power, let it suffice that with a grateful mind I remember and tell over your constant kindnesses, and lay them up in a loyal heart." John Milton, Ad Patrem (1645) We've watched you rage as your body failed and the strength that defined you diminished. We've watched your rage become incomprehension and sorrow at your frailty. You must know that your presence has been, and in your absence will remain, an expansive and unfaltering influence on the family you worked so hard to love and protect. No wane end can lessen a life lived with integrity, dignity and perseverance. This is how we choose to remember you and we'll go forward without fear, knowing you were our rock and safety and that you loved us well. Douglas is survived by Karla, his wife of 36 years, his children Stephanie and Derek, daughter-in-law Sara and grandson Cade, his sister Barbara Mitchell, nephew James Mitchell and his wife Melissa and their children Nate and Quinn. He was a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard, serving on the USS Spencer. He retired as a Senior Investigator on the Governor's Security Detail after thirty years of dedication with the New York State Police. There will be a private service held for the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Wounded Warriors, Disabled American Veterans or the USO.
