Obituary of Bernard Frank Russell

TROY –
 
Mr. Bernard Frank Russell, 66, of Troy, passed away in the comfort of his own home on September 24, 2024.
 
Son of the late Francis Frank Russell and Gertrude Helen Sousie, Bernard was born on November 5, 1957  in Wheeling, West Virginia.
 
A proud American who loved his country, Mr. Russell served in the United States Navy as a machinist mate and received his honorable discharge in 1980.
 
Bernard, or Bernie, as he was known by his family and friends, loved to cook and enjoyed his last few Sunday dinners with a few of his sisters. He also enjoyed bowling, having a beer or smoking with his friends, enjoying the outdoors in Powers Park. He lived his life to the fullest and will be deeply missed by many.
 
Survivors include his siblings: Helen Stone, Wanda Bulson, Vicky Massoth, Deborah Smith, Laurie Reynolds, Lisa (Chris) Valentine, Edgar Russell, Bernice Russell, Waive Russell and his best friend “brother” Mike Sawyer. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
 
In addition to his parents, Bernie was predeceased and now joins in the Kingdom of Heaven siblings: Loretta Jerome, Leo Hewitt, James “T-Joe” Hewitt, Annetta Hewitt and Tommy Russell.
 
Bernie’s family wishes to thank Dela Brundige, Billy, and Mike Sawyer for helping care for Bernie during the last few weeks of his life. Especially Mike and Ricky for helping with the apartment clean up.
 
“Bernie, I got you Bro. I love you. Until we meet again Bro.”
 
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Bernie’s committal service, with Navy funeral honors on Thursday, October 3, 2024 in the Gerald B.H. Solomon – Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871. Those wishing to attend should join the funeral cortège no later than 10:15 AM sharp (in front of the visitor’s center at the cemetery’s front entrance.) Military honors will commence promptly at 10:30 AM followed by prayers offered by Pastor Ernie North.
