Obituary of Mary S. Burch

Troy, NY- Mary S. Burch, 90, of Troy, died peacefully after brief illness on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. Mary resided in Troy most of her life. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High, class of 1943. She graduated from Pratt Institute with her Master's Degree in law library science. She also attended Empire State College. Mary was a law librarian for the Supreme Court Law Library in Troy. Then she became chief law librarian for the office of court administration, until her retirement in 1989. Mary accomplished many great things throughout her years. One of her greatest achievements was being the first woman in the City of Troy to get a pilot's license. She spent many hours flying from the former Troy airport and Poestenkill Airport. Survivors include her son John R. Dwyer and her daughter Joan Moss, both of Troy. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Katie (Dwyer) Monaghan of New Hampshire, Sara (Dwyer) Brown of Colonie, Mary (Dwyer) Barrette of Clifton Park, Karen Moss of Washington, D.C., two great-grandsons: Aidan and Ryan Monaghan of New Hampshire, and one great-granddaughter Samantha Brown of Colonie. In addition, Mary leaves her two sisters, Anne Decatur of Troy and Jane Page of Vermont. Mary was predeceased by three children; Cathy Dwyer, Andrew Dwyer and David Dwyer. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m., on Wednesday, March 23rd, at Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) Troy, where prayers will be offered at 11 a.m., thence to: Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy, where the mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Randall Patterson at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow the mass in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. Please add your condolence by signing the family's online guestbook.
